Link Budget Analysis

Link  Budget Analysis, also called Link Analysis, establishes when earth stations can communicate with other earth stations through a satellite. It allows the size of earth station antennas and associated low noise converters to be properly sized. The effects of Microwave Interference, Adjacent Satellite Interference, Transponder Intermodulation, and other Impairments can be evaluated.

The insight provided by link budget analysis allows informed decisions regarding site selection, which satellites to use, etc.

In short, Link Budget Analysis has to be done right. It has to be done in a flexible way that allows the user to input parameters that are available to calculate those which are not.

Key Elements of AuraGateway Link Budget Analysis

Link Analysis capabilities within AuraGateway are exceedingly flexible and very user friendly.

The starting point and objectives are user selectable:

(1) Specify the EIRP at the satellite, and work down

(2) Specify the Transmit Power at the Uplink and work through the link to the Signal performance at the downlink

(3) Specify the Required Eb/No (digital) or S/N (analog) and work backword through the link

Additional Features:

Link Margins can be as detailed as the user wants them, with the user specifying each individual Margin by Name and by Value.

Link Impairments can be as detailed as the user wants them to be, with the user specifying each individual Impairment by Name and by Value.

Forward Error Correction Rates can be set to anything the user desires

Modulation Types

For Analog Modulation:

Analog TV

Analog SCPC

Analog FDM/FM

Modulation and Burst Encoding for Digital Modulation:

Burst Encoding Correction Rates can be set to anything the user desires

MPEG Filtering can be applied by checking a box

Digital Modulation extends to 256 PSK or QAM

Reporting:

A formatted link analysis report is generated by the press of a button.

The report can be printed or exported.

The contents of each report are available in an Access Database Table for those who prefer to design their own Link Analysis Report.
