The US Department of Defense has long utilized the hierarchical Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) for synthesizing any major project from its numerous elements. The WBS allows each item in a project to be classified, and included, regardless of whether the cost represents hardware, software, purchases, leases, land improvements, etc. After the network synthesis is completely done, and unit costs for all items have been identified, the total costs of the effort can be established.

 

In AuraGateway, the category 1.0 is assigned to the Space Segment, and 2.0 to the Ground Segment. As the user specifies the network elements such as antennas, low noise amplifiers, etc., AuraGateway will automatically add these items to the WBS. The user is free to add other first level nodes for such things as site activation, trainng, support, etc. A sample screen image is provided below.
